Canary is a product system that enables users to monitor infrastructure that is housed in confined spaces. Often times these spaces are hard to access and hazardous to human health. Canary allows for more frequent and thorough inspections of our hard to reach infrastructure.
While Canary is away at work, the data collected can be viewed and processed to identify faults in the infrastructure.
A payload sensor package allows Canary to keep weight down and flight time up. The LIDAR, Infared, Hi-Def Camera, and Air Quality sensor packages allow a single drone to serve many monitoring needs.
The roll cage is engineered to protect the drone and its propellors from crashes. The twelve removable ribs make it easy to repair the cage and remove the drone.
The design process began with sketching over different orientations from Solidworks models. That way the design proportions could be mechanically sound.
Canary is the product of a multidisciplinary team combining the talent of designers, engineers, business students, and sustainability students. The Prototype development required input from all team members.
